Supermarket - ICA In Sweden
ICA Maxi Norrköping is one of the first retail stores in Sweden to try the Twister™ system for daily maintenance of their terrazzo floors. They have noticed a dramatic change for the better when it comes to appearance and cleanliness in the store and in the attached shopping mall. A total area of 7 500 m² are continuously maintained.
Lennart Johansson, store manager at ICA Maxi comments: ”In the retail store industry you have to have very high quality awareness and work intensely with constant improvements in all areas. With the new cleaning system Twister™, introduced to us by our cleaning contractors, we came one step further ahead and the floor has a whole new appearance and quality. In my opinion the general idea for all cleaning companies, should be to always be first adapters regarding technology and rational working methods to maintain their competitive edge, here I believe much in Twister™ diamond pads.”
ICA Maxi in Motala, Sweden (Ahold-group)
Every week ICA Maxi Stormarknad in Motala have almost 30 000 paying visitors. This means in practice that 50-55 000 persons are walking on the supermarket floor day out and day in every week. With that kind of heavy use the floor cleaning efforts has to be dimensioned to withstand that kind of wear.
With Twister the floor becomes very clean after each run and it stays shiny and tidy. Besides that we don’t need periodic maintenance to the same extent as before, says Willy Jernberg, merchant at ICA Maxi Stormarknad in Motala.
Willy Jernberg has been a merchant for over 16 years. He knows how important it is with polished and well kept floors in a supermarket. A clean and shiny floor creates an attractive shopping surface that enhances the customer experience. Since one year back the contracted cleaning company (ISS) uses the new Twister™ cleaning and polishing system.
We notice a big difference compared to before Twister. The floor becomes much shinier and of better quality, all dirt is removed in an effective way.
He further tells us that they previously have had problems with maintaining the 6000 m² (64 500 ft²) floor. Sometimes he believed that the cleaning contractors failed to clean some surfaces, today he knows that results like that can depend on the cleaning method. Willy Jernberg says that the difficulty concerning getting good results with the floors is a common subject to discuss with colleagues in the industry.
With Twister it feels like we have found the right method. We see the results immediately and I would really like to recommend this system to my colleagues.
Stockholm International Fairs
Stockholm International Fairs (Stockholmsmässan AB) in Älvsjö is a very prestigious project in the Swedish cleaning industry, the big areas (10 000 m²) of Swedish marble is a dream for each and every cleaning company to take care of, especially since the new Twister tool has been made available to the market.
We met a noticeably proud Per Öhult from E.F Miljöstäd, the company responsible for cleaning the fair grounds since nine years running: ”We try to clean the floors as intensively as possible between the shows to manage the increased wear on the floors during installation and disassembling periods. Especially after the installation there are busy days before the opening of the trade shows, besides that we have on-call duty during the exhibition and that really helps us to maintain a permanent high standard on the floor. Before Twister we used regular pads for cleaning and at least once a year we had to perform major floor restoration and maintenance, a procedure that isn’t necessary anymore. Even if the floor of course quickly becomes dirty before and during an exhibition it is an equally quick operation to restore the floor with Twister.”
We also got a comment from Sven-Erik Sundberg, manager for constructions and maintenance on the fair grounds: ”We came in contact with Twister via our cleaning contractors, who also told us about some reference objects which we could visit and study. After performing some live test here at the fair we decided to apply the Twister method. We notice the difference on the floor, the surface was more dull, but has changed for the better. We have always had clean floors, but Twister improves the finish and brings that extra shine.”
With the Twister-method you get immediate savings, regarding periodic floor maintenance and grinding with heavy machines and still keep a continuous unmatched level of surface finish.
Birka Cruises
Twister met up with Tony Holmström from TMH Produktion and Niclas Buskenström from Buskenström Hygienkonsult one grey afternoon at the Birka terminal in Stockholm for a bright and sunny story. Tony and Niclas have long worked in the cleaning industry and have seen the launch of many new products.
The Twister™ system (Twister™ pads and Twister™ Cleaner) with its unique properties stood out from the rest. So, when they learned what Twister™ could do for them and their customers, they quickly scooped it up for their assortment. This was about one year ago.
But, how did Twister™ end up on a cruise ship in the Baltic Sea?
It all started with just a few pleasure cruises. Niclas and Tony had booked a cruise on Birka Paradise. During the trip, they realized that the ship had lots of flooring for which Twister™ was perfect. The interesting part of this story is that it does not end at this good idea. On the next cruise they booked, Tony brought along a Twister™ catalogue that he left at the ship’s reception desk with the note “To the person responsible for your floors”. The story could have easily ended here – in the wastebasket – but since the crew of the Birka Paradise is greatly committed to their ship on all levels, the catalogue actually reached its intended destination. In the words of Niclas and Tony: “We were back on the ship within twenty-four hours, demonstrating the entire system to the chief mate. They wanted to see for themselves whether it really worked as promised in the catalogue. The demonstration was a complete success and they purchased the starter pack from us directly.”
On which surfaces and for what purposes is Twister™ used?
The necessary cleaning of toilets, cabins and other public areas is handled by staff which boards the ship during the time it is docked. But, all other floor care is handled by the crew onboard the Birka ship. This is everything from daily to periodic maintenance of natural stone, oiled wood floors and floors in the ship’s well used cargo areas. Now, only Twister™ scrubbing pads are used on the ship.
What has the switch to Twister™ meant?
Jan-Erik Qvarnström, floor care manager of the ship, comments on the floor, saying “Never before have the floors been this nice. We use Twister™ for maintenance as much as possible, including on our wood floors.” The wood floors, which are mostly teak, are polished with a high-speed machine and green Twister™. If there is large scratch, it is sprayed with maintenance oil and polished with the same pad. Some areas, such as the tax-free shop, are subject to more traffic. So, these areas are scrubbed at regular intervals. All that is needed is a light scrubbing with the green Twister™ and Twister™ Cleaner for cleaning. This is followed by a maintenance oiling and the high-speed polishing that is normally carried out.
Until now, maintenance of the natural stone floors has been with traditional crystallisation techniques with steel wool pad and crystallisation fluid. These methods are costly and not particularly environmentally friendly. With such a well functioning replacement, it was not a huge decision to begin taking care of the natural stone floor with the Twister™ system – something that is fully in line with Birka Cruise’s fine environmental policy that permeates all of their operations. Birka Paradise has quite a bit of natural stone flooring, so the switch to Twister™ has also brought about financial savings as their is no longer a need to maintain the stones through crystallisation. The floors are instead polished with a high-speed machine. If the floors require scrubbing, all that is needed is a little Twister™ Cleaner and some water.
